The Black Watch, officially designated the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment of Foot, is one of the most celebrated Scottish Highland regiments in the British Army! Its history traces back to 1725, when it was originally raised as a militia force for the House of Hanover in the Scottish Highlands, tasked with maintaining law and order and suppressing Jacobite uprisings. The name “Black Watch” derives from the dark tartan uniform worn by its soldiers — distinct from the red coats of the regular British Army — and their duty to “watch” over the Highlands. In 1740, it was formally reorganized as a regular infantry regiment.Palm Hero proudly presents the 1/12 British Army 42nd Regiment – The Black Watch – Angus.
